Internet Use

August 23, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I can’t stand when companies tell their employees that they can’t use the internet for anything that isn’t work related.  It seems to me that if I have down time – true down time where there is nothing for me to do and I have checked with everyone else I’m working with to see if they have anything I can do and they don’t – that I should be able to use the internet to check my own email, to see the news, or catch up on other online reading.

It doesn’t interfere with my job.  I’m not doing anything at that moment and as long as I stop the second anything to do comes up what harm is there?  The only other option seems to be to actually twiddle my thumbs at my desk.  This just makes for a very frustrated employee.

We all fall down.

August 21, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Poor little girl, she’s just like her mom – always in a hurry.

Now that she’s mobile her need for speed makes her clumsy (also like her mom).

Yesterday I thought she might like to try on her baby Uggs.  I had bought them for last winter but they are so soft I thought she might get a kick out of playing in them now.

She loved them – I brought her outside and put her down so she could walk over to her Dad.  She looked at me, looked at her shoes and started to pick her feet up and down.  She looked up at me and you could see the joy in her face.  She loved these soft shoes that made it so the ground outside didn’t hurt her bare feet.

Then she started running to try the fun Uggs out…  and down she went.  It wasn’t a bad fall, she’s had worse, but the bump on her head would convince you otherwise.

We also learned that she hates having ice on her head.  I’m going to try to get a gel pack to keep on hand- maybe she’ll like that better.

I guess I should save the Uggs for inside and in strollers not for active wear.

Slacker Moms?

June 25, 2007 · Leave a Comment

So I was watching the Today Show today and they did a segment about Alpha Moms vs. Slacker Moms.  My first thought with these things is, do we really need tv to perpetuate the whole “mommy wars” thing?  My second was “slacker moms?  Isn’t there a better name then that?”

I understand that controversy sells but it seems like they should at least mention something in between the two extremes.  It makes it sound like if you don’t do everything then you just aren’t trying at all.

The vast majority of parents are simply doing the best they can at any given point in time.  Wouldn’t it be nice if one of these theories recognized that?

Limbo Land

More then anything I’ve wanted to be a stay-at-home mom.  I love being with my baby and long to be the one who is with her every minute of the day.  Now that unemployment is giving me that opportunity it feels very different then I thought it would.

Don’t misunderstand me – I still want to be a stay-at-home mom.  I just want to be one by my own choice.  I want the circumstances (ie money situation) to be in such a way that this is a good and viable decision for my family.

Instead I struggle to enjoy the time I have while trying to look for a job that I don’t really want to do.

The in-between of it all drives me crazy.  I’m much happier when things are somewhat settled.  For now though I need to be happy for the time I have with my little girl and know that whatever comes in the future will come and I need to be ready to deal with it when it does.

Life got away from me.

June 7, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Phew! Things have been beyond insane around the soup pot lately! The company that I (and Mr. Daisymom) work for has been having some problems lately and had to let pretty much everyone go. Including both of us.

So, all of my computer time has been spent looking for a job lately. Ick. I hate job searches. I’ve been sending out tons and tons of resumes to places that I’m well qualified for and haven’t heard anything back. Not even a “hey, we received your resume but we aren’t interested.” It’s very frustrating. Fortunately Mr. D has gotten a job that starts Monday, thank goodness!!! Now we just need to see if they can start health insurance early for us.

On a brighter note… I got my fun free stuff in the mail. Check out how much little R loves her placemat!!!

So cute!! Also – the fabulous Mommy Knows is still giving away a gift a day so go check it out and win some stuff for yourself.

As for the milk alcohol tester – it told me that my one drink that is doctor approved does enter my milk a bit.  Not much, but enough that I now feel guilty when having it.  But gosh darn it all!  I have no job right now, I should be able to have one measly drink if I want to!

Things I don’t want to do.

May 23, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Have you ever been in a situation where someone in your family wants you to do something that will not help a situation at all but they think it might?  It’s something that you really don’t want to do because it’s a huge waste of time and not something you really think is right but you feel like you’re going to be backed into a corner and have to do it.

Have you had that happen?  Did it turn out well?  I don’t see this turning out well.  I see wasting a lot of time only to find everything the same way it is now but with more people pissed off.

Sometimes talking about things only makes them worse.

Sometimes things happen that change the dynamics of families and they can never go back.

Sometimes people have to get over that and realize that things are how they are and deal with life now and not how they want it to be in an imaginary world.

Stroller Spotting

May 18, 2007 · 1 Comment

I was watching the final episode of The Gilmore Girls the other day. I’m very sad that this show is over, I have enjoyed it for years.  This past episode brought to light a new hobby that I have developed since having a baby.  Stroller spotting.

At first is was simple research.  Notice the type of strollers other mothers have so that I can figure out which one to buy.  Then it became an obsession.  I point the brands out to the people I’m with.  Look there’s a Graco, that’s a Maclaren…  the list goes on.

So I’m watching Gilmore Girls and Luke’s sister walks into his diner pushing her baby in this…

only in orange. A Bugaboo stroller!

Of course my husband walks in at this moment and sees my jaw hit the floor as I stammer (as quietly as possible because the baby is asleep).  “She has a Bugaboo!  Luke’s sister has a Bugaboo?!”

Because really, woman who make jewelry for a Renaissance fair and has a husband who randomly does poor construction work has an $800 stroller?  Am I really supposed to believe that?  If it’s true then I guess I need to start making jewelry!

This stroller spotting – it’s a sickness.

The Bread of Life

May 15, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I have two very funny nephews.  One is four and one is five.  They are learning more and more about religion and incorporating it into their lives.  The other day they were playing this video game where you go around gathering different things.  One of the things you need are loaves of bread.  The bread adds up and gives you lives so you don’t die when you run into bad guys.  This is the conversation their mother had with them the other day… (b= boy m=mom)

B:  Brother get the Jesus bread.
M: Get the what?
B: The Jesus Bread. You need the Jesus bread Mommy.
M: Why is it called the Jesus bread?
B: Because it gives you life and Jesus is the bread of life – the Jesus bread.

Later that night their Dad was playing the game…
D: Oh man! I missed the Jesus bread.

Ick!

I’m getting in my car yesterday and I reach up to check to be sure that the backs of my earrings are on tightly.  I never take them off but they do become loose sometimes so I have a habit of checking them.

Hm – it feels like there is a bit of a scab there.  I must have some sort of infection there.  That sometimes happens, I’ll just take the back off.  Wow, it’s really a big scab…

(I’m now in the car driving to the daycare place) Ok, now I have this off let’s just take a look at this big scab – Oh My Gosh!!!  It’s a tick.  I just found a tick on my ear.  Ack!!!  This is so gross.  I must not scream, must not scare the baby… but I do flick the bug somewhere in the front seat of the car.

I bring the baby to daycare and tell the nice woman to keep an eye out for bugs.  I’m fairly certain there aren’t any on her because I would have seen them but then again, I did just find a bug cuddle up to my earring back so who and I to talk?

Into work I go where I tell everyone about how gross this is and Oh My Gosh!  A tick!!!

Everytime I itch I think it’s a bug and have to check – which is often because all I can think about it the tick that is now somewhere in my car (or so I think, can you see where this is going yet?)

I feel an itch in the small of my back.  I reach around and OH MY GOSH!!!  There is the stinking tick!

The tick has been flushed (thank goodness).  I continue to itch and think everything is a bug – because it was the last time…  but at least the tick has been flushed and I managed to confirm that is was not the uber-scary deer tick.  Just your everyday-average-run-of-the-mill tick.  Ick!

Purple is evil.

May 9, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I just read this by Crab Mommy. I totally agree! It is a mother’s job to teach her daughter that purple is not a nice color. Pink is much better, or perhaps my personal favorite of blue. Yellow is somewhat evil as it’s the left over color.

I grew up in a family of three children – the other two are twins and were often color-coded so that people would know who was who. Their colors were red and blue.

Have you ever noticed that three packs of toys are almost always the three primary colors? Red, blue and yellow. Guess who always got stuck with the yellow.

I thought I could escape in college but no. The first night we were there we were informed by some very peppy people that our class color was yellow. There is no escape from yellow.

This does not change the fact that purple is evil and should not be trusted. It might not follow from my story but it is truth.
